Spacing Births/Saving Lives: Potential Applications of DHS Data |

For many years, family planning experts believed that a 24-month birth interval was adequate to ensure healthy mothers and healthy children. However, a recent cross-country study by Dr. Shea Rutstein of MEASURE DHS+ provides convincing evidence that spacing births at least 36 months apart is much more beneficial. This presentation discusses specific actions that can be taken by PVOs and NGOs to address this critical determinant of maternal and child health and survival.
